Dental Care for Pets in San Diego's South Park Neighborhood!

Our dental care services are tailored to make sure your pet does not have hidden dental disease.

Pet owners can make a big difference in the longevity and quality of life of their pets with daily dental care and professional dental exams and professional scaling and polishing during their pet’s lifetime.  Regular professional dental exams and cleanings, as well as at-home care, will keep your pet’s teeth strong and healthy for years to come. Without proper dental care, your pet may suffer from gingivitis, periodontal disease, and painful infections that can even affect other organs.

Symptoms of Pet Dental Disease

Please call us to schedule an appointment with one of our veterinarians if your dog or cat is exhibiting any of these signs of dental disease:

Professional Dental Care at Woof and Purr Vet

Woof and Purr Vet is dedicated to keeping your pet healthy by providing the following comprehensive, preventative dental services for both dogs and cats:

Dental Cleaning With Anesthesia

Effective dental care requires your pet to be under anesthesia during the dental procedure.  Unfortunately, there are often no visible signs of periodontal disease until there is so much damage beneath the gum-line that the pet often has pain, bone loss and tooth loss.  The use of anesthesia allows us to observe, evaluate, and clean all surfaces of the teeth, probe the gum line for pockets, and obtain x-rays to screen for problems below the gum line. Anesthesia also allows us to protect your pet’s airway and lungs from the bacteria liberated during cleaning. At Woof and Purr Vet we do not recommend, nor do we perform, “non-anesthetic” dental cleanings. Please visit our page for more information about “non-anesthetic dental cleanings for pets”.

At-Home Dental Care for Your Pet

Brushing your cat’s or dog’s teeth on a daily basis significantly reduces the buildup of plaque on the teeth. Plaque is an accumulation of bacteria that can lead to periodontitis if ignored. Periodontitis causes pain and chronic oral infections which can lead to bone loss and eventually tooth loss.

The staff at Woof and Purr Vet can provide you with advice and various options on how to care for your dog’s or cat’s teeth at home. Call us today to speak with us about your pet’s dental care or to schedule a dental exam.
